Maternity Session Information

When should I schedule my maternity session?

I generally schedule maternity sessions between the 32nd and 37th weeks. We don’t want to wait too late because you’ll never know when the baby will actually come. Besides most pregnant women feel very uncomfortable during their last 2 to 3 weeks of pregnancy. We also don’t want to do it too early as you want to have a big enough belly to show in your photos.

I recommend to call me at least before you are 25 weeks so you can be certain that we can fit you in my schedule.

Where will we do the session?

Sessions can be done in a variety of locations. I can come to your home, you can come to my home studio, or we can scout out fun and unique locations.

If we shoot indoors at your home, I will need ample light. Think bay windows or sliding glass doors.

We can also do a studio session at my home studio. Studio sessions are taken on simple backdrops or a bed setup.

What should I wear?

First and formost, wear what is most comfortable and most “you”.

Clothing for maternity photo shoots should be tight-fitting around the belly. Loose and baggy shirts and pants will only hide the pregnant stomach. Stretch pants and pants that have low waistlines won’t bunch up as the woman is posing or sitting, and are a good idea to wear during a shoot. In addition, tight-fitting tank tops and maternity tops that have thin fabrics that cling to the body are also good choices for maternity portraits. Regular jeans unbuttoned always look great!

Keep clothing selections for maternity portraits simple. Stripes and busy patterns can hide the stomach or detract attention away from it. Instead, stick with solid colors. Do not be afraid of textures and accessories.

I have items for maternity clothing as well, maternity gowns that are specifically designed for maternity photos (open front gowns, bandeaus, etc).

Can I include my husband or children in the session?

Yes! If you select the extended maternity session, we can include partner and siblings! I really recommend having some photos that include your family. It’s always important to capture that very amazing moment of your life with the most special people in your life!

Thank you for choosing me as your maternity photographer. Being pregnant is amazing, exciting, brief (even though there are times it feels like forever), and…beautiful! That’s why carving time out of the rush of birth and baby preparations for a maternity photo shoot is an investment worth making. I look foward to working with you!!
